Got to love these dutch bike. I was lucky to get this whole bike at a bargain all the way from Germany. It has some old french components - a mix simplex group, some nifty high flange normany hubs with mavic tubs and a working condition mafac brake. The seller describe the bike as unridable and only good for display. It was in a bad state (and the box it came in was even worst) but salvageable IMHO.
When i saw it, immediately i knew what mechs i want to put it... because i that i guess, it didn't take long for me to source and secure all the part that i needed. The other thing about the frame is that i just absolutely love the colour (blue is my fav colour) and the patina it came with. the nicks actually gave it character. With a bit of elbow grease and a lot of solvent, i manage to get the shine back. the rest is history.
Thanks to my fav LBS - SSC, the result was what i'd imagine and it rides smooth too..
Pictures of the original condition.
And this is how it came in...
Cleaned it up good...
And the uncle at SSC did a superb job (as always - and i'm going to miss him when he retires end june)
Wow! Really nice build! Nice colour combination too! You have done it again! I like your French saddle Just bought a similar one for my up coming French build How it rides?
Thanks everyone. I'm real happy with it. it rides smooth. the only think that i might consider changing is the freewheel cog, to have a bigger cog size - 26T.
dmoster - mine as neglected so its a bit 'hard' now. i have to constantly apply mink oil to condition it. if your condition is better than mine, it should ride like a b17 but slightly shorter - by 2cm and has no saddle bag loop.
Sko... you like to tempt me = P anyway, i bought a pair of Rivat leather cycling shoe. the sizing is a bit weird.
Citylimit - 2 more of my friends have gazelles. we've got a little gazelle club going ; P
Ha, Anyway that's my collection. I think you need +1 for vintage leather cycling shoes. I still have few smaller size available. let me know if friend needs.
