Doing restoration of my Dawes imperial.Does anybody know if special tools are needed to remove bottom bracket and if the fork cups are pressed in.Have been told they were threaded but never heard of that also anybody with original images.Conan

If your Dawes Imperial is the version built with 531 tubes, then you will need special tools to remove the bottom bracket cups. Typically, this will be a lock ring spanner to undo the lock ring on the non-drive side adjustable cup and a large adjustable spanner for the adjustable cup itself. The drive side needs a special spanner to remove the fixed cup and these are often unique to the brand of BB. Alternatively, a big adjustable jaw may do the job. Remember that the fixed cup loosens and tightens in the reverse to the normal direction found on the adjustable cup. You turn right to loosen the fixed cup and left to tighten it.
If you have a 1 inch diameter insertable stem and not an Ahead set style of headset, then the upper and lower races are press fitted into the frame. This requires a special tool to remount to the frame. To remove the cups, take a long handled straight blade screwdriver and a hammer and tap your way around the cup flange inside the headtube. The cup will eventually loosen and pop out.
