Back in those days, learning to ride on a Raleigh Choppers was the only fun we have after school. With the long seats, I will sit in front to change the gearing and my brother will pedal and steer from behind. It was fun.....

Then came An Mei Da and the movie ET that made Kuwara BMX the most wanted in a boys' dream. Owning a BMX then was like a dream come true. You can do whatever you want, go whereever you can ride on and be ........ free!

Trashing the dirt trails and flatlands with some man made humps to fly over was like riding into the sky in the movie ET. You get to feel the rush in you and the wind in your hairs..........before you land hard on that plastic seats and crush you ding dongs and shouted out in extreme pain!

Then came Freestyling...........it lets you express yourself. Show off your skills, impress the opponents (girls was not the main topic then cos was still in puberty) and ride like an outlaw! You challenge yourself with new tricks, defy gravity and master the balance of pivoting. Wheelie looks so boring when you can do a Handle bar stand (standing on both handle bar grips of the BMX travelling at 20km/h down a gradient was way cooler lor! Spinning round and round on one front wheel and jumping around and flipping the bike was like magic to passer-bys. Bunny hopping, Endo was just some common tricks then.

The fad just slowly died off among the teens when disco was the next best thing and girls then came into the picture. Weekends was just Yo ah Yo! at Fire Disco and Xanado (if you can afford). Or maybe it was part or growing up.

Next came racing bike and then mountain bikes although Roller-bladding came and gone for awhile. Till now, I'm still stuck with Mountain Biking and Road Racing........although Kallang carpark race did came and gone.
