The next edition of L’Eroica, the hugely popular vintage cycling event that takes place on the white gravel roads of the province of Siena, will take place on Sunday, 6th October. The starting line will, as always, be in Gaiole in Chianti, the ideal place to live, according to an article published in Forbes magazine in 2009. As always, there is a choice of four routes, respectively 38, 75, 135 & 205 km, the most difficult & ambitious of the four. Riders in the two longer routes will set out between 5:00 & 7:00am, while the starting time for the shorter routes will be between 8:30 & 10:00am. Up to 2200 Italians & 800 non-nationals, aged between 15-60 years will be able to register. There is no limit on the number of over-60s, both Italian & non-nationals & they can register from 1st Feb to 30th June. For latecomers, it will be possible to register on two separate dates (15th May & 15th June) and the additional charge will be given to charity. Participation in L’Eroica is strictly limited to VINTAGE bicycles, that is bicycles with the gear shift levers on the frame down tube, external brake wires & toe straps on pedals. These bicycles must have been built before 1987.
