Hi Jess...realized I am unable to pm you. Anyway, you can send me an email at natk74@hotmail.com As for the place for chroming, I always go to this place to do it. It is better to bring the frame down personally and ask them, they can't advice you through the phone.
Sam Kong Electro-Plating Address : Blk 81 Geylang Bahru #01-2646 Singapore 339689 Telephone : 6298 3964

I had this ciocc frame for 2 years. I got it from ebay and was very excited but upon recieving it, the rust was worse that the seller had describe. I had asked around (vanguard and rebound) its either impossible to remove and rechrome triangle only or it cost about 1K to do it (which is more expensive than the frame itself)
my want to save the hand painted logos (on the head, down and seat tube). suggestion on how i can do this?
here are some pictures of the rust. there's also a little dent (shown in one of the image)
Hello there. I am not really an expert in restoration but here's my 2 cents. Maybe experts can give you better advice.
- You are unable to rechrome the rear triangle only unless the person doing it can do it so precise by chroming the seat stay and chain stay only. Why don't you bring the frame to chroming shops and ask them? See if they can do it or not. I can give you a contact :)
- If you are able to chrome the chain stay and seat stay only, the rest of the restoration will be easy as it will just be masking and spraying. The rust at the top tube is not so bad, just sand it and spray paint will do. But of cos you have to do simple masking as you wanna keep the original decals at the seat tube and down tube.
- As for small dent on the tubing, you can just use putty to cover it up before spraying primer and paint. But if the dent is at the chrome area, there's nothing much you can do.
- Maybe you can look for Joo on advices about paint job, he's a guru in restoring old cars and bikes. Try sending him a PM.
Hope what I have mentioned help you in certain way....
Thanks!! will try them out and see how it goes. my aim is to get this frame sorted by this year. If still no viable solution, i guess i'll be putting this frame up for sale. cant bring myself to repaint the entire frame; i'll leave that to someone else.
The chrome shop does not want to partial chrome you frame because during the chroming process, foreign particles (paint) will contaminate the solution. You can brass fill the dent at the rear stay, only then you can chrome it. I will strongly recommend you to paint the rear stay altogether It's more cost effective!
