To restore... or not to restore...

Personally, as a puriest, I feed that if the bike has a story to tell

Showing off the abuse, the sweat and pain the owner took, is essential

BUT, never-the-less, you have to clean, de-rust and grease it with TLC

If the bicycle in in terrible condition, or

Previous owner did a bad paint job

There's no doubt in my mind that I would immediately strip everything

and get her a well deserve treatment! b

It depends on type and make of the bike i guess,  you may want to preserve the patina to show off the age.

Vintage Roadster for an example might be a good example.

Beat up style if you may.

Cheers.

I'm a fan of keeping it original. I have a 74 Peugeot which shows its wear - but hey, its from 1974. It was acquired in a small village in France and carried home to Singapore. Sure she has a few minor rust spots but I wouldn't change it for the world.
I agree though, if the previous owner did a bad paint job, then I take it as my duty to the cycle to re-do the paint job and restore the cycle as much / or less as possible to it's original glory..
it's why we do what we do :)
